Victor Garcia-Bebek

Director and Coach

Playing experience: A native of Lima, Peru, has more than 25 years of combined playing and coaching experience. He played Lower, Middle and High School, Club soccer as well as semi professional soccer in Peru, South America. He also represented his High School internationally playing in Great Britain. In 2001 he moved to the U.S. to play college soccer for the Newman University Jets, one of the top soccer programs in the nation. He helped the team to a MCAC Conference Championship and a Region IV Runner-up finish.

Coaching Experience:
In 2002 he joined the Newman University coaching staff. Garcia-Bebek spent seven seasons as the assistant men’s soccer coach at Newman University, under the mentoring of Cliff Brown, NU men's soccer head coach. Newman University is an NCAA Div. II institution.
 
In July of 2009, Victor Garcia-Bebek was hired to guide the Friends University women's soccer program. In the 2009 season head coach Garcia-Bebek accomplished a record of 8-7-4 and a semi final appearance in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC). The Lady Falcons soccer team was picked to finish last in the KCAC on media day. The team finished ranked top 20 in the NAIA national rankings in goals against average and number of shootouts.
 
Club Management Experince:
Victor Garcia-Bebek founded New Soccer Academy and NSA FC in 2006. New Soccer Academy, after 3 successful years, began the process of becoming a partner of PB FCBarcelona L.A., an official affiliate of FC Barcelona. This partnership allows NSA Barcelona to support the methodologies and player development strategies of the world's most famous and successful professional soccer clubs, FC Barcelona. 
 
Education:
Victor Garcia-Bebek has two undergraduate degrees. A Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and a Bachelor of Science in International Business. He also has a Master in Business Administration with concentration in Leadership.
In 2009, VIctor Garcia-Bebek, became an adjunct professor at Friends University

Garcia-Bebek holds a USSF coaching license. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Cliff Brown

Goalkeeper Coach

Coach Brown has coached soccer for 40 years, and has built the Newman University men’s program into the most respected in the country. In addition to serving as head men’s soccer coach at Newman the past 21 seasons, where he has achieved more than 200 wins, Brown launched the women’s program in 1989, which he coached for he first 11 years of its existence. Brown has led the men’s soccer to numerous achievements, including three regional championships, three trips to the NAIA Nationals and one National Quarter-Final finish. He has been named Conference Coach-of-the-Year four times, Region Coach-of-the-Year three times, and District Coach-of-the-Year once. He has coached over 75 All-Conference, 20 All-Region, and 10 All-American players. Newman University now competes at the NCAA D-II level in the Heartland Conference where 7 players in two years have achieved All-Conference honors. In 2008 the Jets finished in fourth place, up two spots from the previous season. The Jets play an exciting game of attacking soccer that reflects the vision and passion that Coach Brown brings to the game. 

Brown was an All-Conference and All-American NCAA D-I goalkeeper at the University of Washington. He was a member of the U.S. Youth National Team, was selected in the U.S. Olympic player pool, and has played on eight professional soccer teams over three decades. He has also coached professionally in both indoor and outdoor leagues. No other coach in the region brings this level of experience to the game of soccer.

Coach Brown holds a B.S. in Business Management, a M.B.A. in Leadership, and a PhD (ABD) in Organization and Management with a concentration in Leadership. This extensive educational background creates a unique perspective on his coaching philosophy and style.


Derek Nichols

Nichols, who will continue in his role at Newman University in addition to his new Club position, is in his fourth year at the helm of the Newman women’s soccer program. In 2007, Nichols led the Jets in their final year as a provisional NCAA Division II participant to a respectable 6-10-3 record. The previous season, 2006, was one of the best in school history and came in Newman's first year as an NCAA DII school. The Jets posted a remarkable 12-4-1 record. In Nichols’ first season, 2005, the Jets took off in the second half with a 7-2-2 record and captured the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship. Newman advanced to the Regional Quarterfinals and finished with a No. 3 ranking in the region.

 
Overall, Nichols has 13 years of collegiate, club and Olympic Development Program experience. Prior to his arrival at Newman, Nichols started the women’s soccer program at Lyon College (NAIA) in Batesville, Ark., and served as head coach there for two seasons. Prior to that, Nichols spent two years as a graduate assistant for the University of Central Arkansas (NCAA DII) men's program from 2001-2002. In 2002, UCA lost in the NCAA DII Final Four in overtime to the eventual national champion. The team finished the year ranked third nationally, the top ranking in school history. Nichols also spent one year as an assistant at Hendrix College (NCAA DIII) in 1999. He has coached ODP and club teams in Arkansas, and has a USSF coaching license and NSCAA Goalkeeping Diploma.
 
Nichols played soccer for two years at Allen County Community College before transferring to play at the University of Central Arkansas, where he earned M.S. and B.S.E. degrees in kinesiology. He and his wife, Jessica, reside in Wichita and have two daughters.
